In order to actively integrate into the national development strategy and actively contribute to Belt and Road Initiative, Kunming Medical University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine jointly launched the South and Southeast Asia Medical Education and Service Alliance on July 12, which has received the active participation and response from more than 40 institutes in 12 countries in south and southeast Asia.
Adhering to the concept of "Consultation, Contribution and Shared Benefits", the Alliance will gradually integrate the resources of its member , build expert think tanks, resource-sharing platforms and joint laboratories, etc., to lay the foundation for its long-term development. With the help of talents, technology and other resources and advantages of its members, the alliance will explore and put forward solutions to major issues concerning regional and global public health; provide intellectual support and talent guarantee for the development of regional medical education and healthcare undertakings; make cooperation brands for regional medical education and services; share experience and cooperative results among regional universities and medical institutions.
Professor LI Song, President of Kunming Medical University, said that the Alliance is necessary to build a community of a shared future for mankind, to serve Belt and Road Initiative, and also to the construction and development of each alliance member. He hoped that the alliance would become an important platform for exchanges among medical institutions in south and southeast Asian countries. It is hoped that all members will jointly promote the continuous improvement of regional medical education, scientific research and health care, and make positive contributions to the development of global medical and healthcare undertakings.
After the inaugural meeting of the Alliance, the first Academic forum of the University President was held under the theme of "Exchange, mutual learning and common development". The participants had in-depth discussions and extensive exchanges on the development of healthcare.
Since its establishment, Kunming Medical University has always taken root in the border areas and served the grassroots, making contributions to Yunnan's medical and healthcare undertakings, economic and social development, ethnic unity and progress, and prosperity and stability in the border areas. The university has established exchange and cooperation relations with more than 80 universities and research institutes in more than 20 countries, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, especially with universities in South and Southeast Asia.
