2025 SSAMESA Conference of Held in Bangkok

During December 12, 2025 South and Southeast Asia Medical Education and Service Alliance Conference was successfully held in Bangkok, Thailand. For the first time, the event was hosted by Prince of Songkla University, a member institution of the Alliance, with co-organization by Kunming Medical University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. More than 100 representatives from 19 Alliance member institutions across Thailand, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Myanmar, and China gathered to discuss regional collaboration in medical education and healthcare.

 

The opening ceremony was addressed by Prof. Fan Xianqun, Chair of the Alliance, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Chancellor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine; Asst.Prof. Niwat Keawpradub, President of Prince of Songkla University; and Prof. Xia Xueshan, Secretary of the Alliance and President of Kunming Medical University. The ceremony was presided over by Asst.Prof. Thakerng Wongsirichot, Vice President of Prince of Songkla University.

 

Under the theme Digital Intelligence EmpowermentShaping the Future TogetherBuilding a New Paradigm of Regional Medical Education and Healthcare Cooperation, the conference featured keynote presentations from 16 leaders and experts representing 15 Alliance member institutions, including Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Kunming Medical University, Southwest Medical University, Bengbu Medical University, Chongqing Medical University, Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, as well as Prince of Songkla University, Chulalongkorn University, Chiang Mai University, Mae Fah Luang University, Bangladesh Medical University, and University of Health Sciences, Lahore, together with Shenzhen Mindray Bio-Medical Electronics Co., Ltd. Two Panel Discussion were also organized, focusing on “To Enhance Medical Student Mobility and Cultivate Elite Talents” and “Future-Focused Integration and Innovation: Forging a New Paradigm for Medical Education in South and Southeast Asia”. Participants exchanged insights and proposed recommendations on medical education innovation in the AI era, high-level medical talent cultivation, and promoting sustainable regional growth through international cooperation.

 


At the closing ceremony, Prof. Xia Xueshan delivered a summary of the conference, followed by the handover of the Alliance flag. Academician Fan Xianqun, on behalf of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, received the flag, marking that the 2026 Alliance conference will be hosted by the Alliance Chair institution, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.

 

Prior to the conference, the Alliance held its 2025 Working Meeting, where the annual work report presented by Secretary Prof. Xia Xueshan was reviewed and approved. The meeting voted to admit Bengbu Medical University and Baotou Medical College of Inner Mongolia University of Science & Technology as new members, and discussed the work plan for the next phase. Representatives from 56 existing member institutions and the 2 new member institutions participated both online and offline. The working meeting was chaired by Academician Fan Xianqun.
